The Old Tbilisi resistance – „I refuse to move out“

When I moved to Tbilisi I especially liked the Old Town – wooden balconies, hidden yards, carved ornaments and beautiful doors and porches give this part of the city an unique character. Guests and tourists from abroad admired this historical setting. But what was astonishing: unlike in Western European cities „normal“ people who lived there for decades and generations could afford to live in this area. But unfortunaely this is also changing. New residential buildings and hotels are replacing the old structure. The old inhabitants are paid off and move away. What is left doesn’t resemble the spirit if Old Tbilisi. I talked to Sopo Bagauri who bought an appartement in an old house and needs to defend against obtrusive investors. JAMnews published the short film that i produced about her story.
