On 26th May 2016 the annual celebration of the Georgian Independence Day took place. This date marks the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia which was founded on 26th May 1918 after the collapse of the Russian Empire. The new funded state existed only until spring 1921 when it was invaded by the Red Army and integrated into the Soviet Union.
Today 26th May is a national holiday in Georgia. Beneath are pictures from the celebrations in 2016 on the Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.

The Rustaveli Avenue was blocked for traffic and crowed by people strolling around and looking to the attractions.
Also the police presented themselves and kids could sit in a police car or ride on a police motorbike.
The Georgian army presented themsleves with tanks and other vehicles. Many Georgians wondered about this proud production, as the last military engagement didn’t went so well after all.
Nevertheless many visitors took pictures with the military staff, especially with US soldiers who participated in a manoeuvre few days ago.
